The Choice Is Yours

“If you want to you could find a million reasons to hate life and be angry at the world or if you want you could find a million reasons to love life and be happy” – Cari Welsh

I love this quote by Cari and it is so true. One of the most powerful things you and possess is the ability to decide or to choose. How many times have you heard a person say, “I have no choice in the matter”? I tend to think we have more choices than we even realize in life.

If a situation is not of your making or beyond your control, you still get to decide how to handle or deal with the situation. Sometimes we believe there are no options, but just because you are not able to see a way doesn’t mean there isn’t a possibility or option. Maybe you have heard the expression “this is just the way I am” implying that it isn’t possible to change. Yes, it is the way you are today, but it doesn’t mean you can’t change. It also may mean you are giving yourself a permission slip not to change.

Maybe you have also heard the expression, “I have to do this, that or the other.” When you think about it, who really “has” to do anything? I certainly don’t have to get out of bed in the morning. I don’t have to go to work. No one is policing me or going to arrest me if I don’t do these things. Now, it’s true, if I don’t get up or go to work, there are consequences for those choices. But when you think about it, I really don’t “have” to do any of them.

The ability to choose or decide is one of the most powerful and important things you possess as a human. If you don’t like something, you can choose to change or improve or better the situation. Rather than thinking “I have to do it,” start telling yourself “ I get to do it.” “I get to go to work” is a lot more empowering than “I have to go to work.” Some people are out of work so if you have work that is a great thing. If you don’t like the work you are doing, consider changing it. The choice is always yours to make. Changing how you view choice might just change everything for you.

You can even choose your attitude. You can wake up any day and decide what your attitude is going to be for that day. In reality, no one can make you sad or mad unless you allow them to do so. It always comes down to a decision or choice you make.

When it comes to choosing, you get to decide. It is a privilege given to you by your Creator. Get in the driver’s seat of your own life. Be proactive. If you don’t like something, take action to improve, better or change the situation. If you are not able to change the situation, then consider making some decisions or choices on how you will handle it or view it.

If you want to live a really great life then start with your choices and realize that they are yours to make every single day!
