Make Today Count
By Make Today Count Christian Life Coaching“What day is it? It’s today, squeaked Piglet. My favorite day, said Pooh.”
When you woke up this morning you were given a gift. You were handed 24 hours, 1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds to use or spend as you please. You can choose to stay in bed all day. You can choose to be productive or not. You can even choose to be down, sad, mad, complain or have a pity party. Or, you can choose to have a good day, put a smile on your face and make the most of this day.
Even when life throws you a curve ball, you still get to decide how you will handle it. Right now I am looking out my window at the pouring rain and wind that I have been experiencing for two days now with Hurricane Florence. Not fun! So I can’t say the past two days have been my favorite! However, I still get to decide how I am going to make use of this day. So, while I have electricity, I decided to write an article.
While all days might not be our favorite day, the fact remains that if we are drawing in breath, we have been given a gift. Now what we do with that gift is up to us. When you think about it, today is actually all we have. Yesterday is gone and we certainly don’t have any guarantees about tomorrow. How sad it is that we waste so much time worrying about things we don’t have control over. Or, we spend so much time lamenting over yesterday, our shortcomings or failures. Life is hard enough without carrying yesterday’s burdens or baggage into today.
Sometimes the most important thing, and the most productive thing, you can do is to refocus your thoughts and your energy in a more positive direction. How can I make today meaningful, fun, or productive? What can I do today that will take my life in a more positive direction? How can I take care of myself today or be kind to myself today?
One thing is for sure. Living a great life is not about having a problem-free existence. Far from it! It is simply about making some choices and decisions. Even your happiness or lack of it ultimately comes down to a choice. I can allow myself to become angry or bitter about life or I can choose to become solution minded and grateful. I can choose to let go or hold on. I can even choose to forgive myself and become my own best friend. Or, I can be my worst critic. These choices I get to make every day. It is all a choice. I get to choose how I will handle the good, the bad and even painful in my life.
Life is a journey and a process. I am definitely a work in progress and I don’t always get it right! But I really believe life is beautiful and can become truly great when we learn to take the moments and hours that we have been given, treasure them and make them great!
This is just what I needed today. Plus, Winnie the Pooh is my favorite. It’s today; my favorite day of the week.
