Made for Greatness

When I was in school I remember being picked on frequently because I was quiet, shy, and skinny. In high school, my guidance counselor cried and told me that I may not make it into college. How is that for a vote of confidence?

In fact, when I look back over my life, I am really amazed at the countless times people either told me or implied I wasn’t good enough or couldn’t accomplish this, that or the other. Amazing! I am sure if you and I sat down for coffee, you could tell me some your stories also. No one likes to be labeled or told what they can or cannot do. Fortunately, in my case, I had a little too much of my Father’s stubbornness and persistence to give up so easily. By the way, just for the record, I not only went to college and did quite well, but finished graduate school also!

Here is the point I want to make… Despite the labels thrown at you or assigned to you, you really do have to choose what you accept and what you will reject. You either allow the people in your life to define you or you decide who you are and define your true potential. It took me some years to understand this, but it finally dawned on me that my identity comes from the One who flung the stars into space. If He says I am His masterpiece then that is exactly what I am!

Who do you say you are? It really does matter and at the end of the day, it is the only thing that matters. Instead of letting others define who you are, why not decide to value the very special person that you are?
My hope is that you will agree with what your Creator says about you that you are one of a kind, a treasure, a masterpiece fearfully and wonderfully made for a life of purpose and greatness!
