Can You Be Guided By Feelings?
By Christian Life CoachingHow are you doing with those New Year’s resolutions? “Well….and the excuses begin. “I just haven’t gotten around to it.” “I just haven’t felt like going.” Now, before you get defensive. I want to encourage you that it is not too late to get started. If you are feeling a bit discouraged, then maybe you ought to ignore your feelings a bit.
“Feelings, Wo-o-o feelings, not only lyrics to a great song, but for many of us, it becomes our theme song. If we don’t feel like doing something, then we don’t do it. If we get discouraged, or down about something or even feel defeated, we throw in the towel and quit.
Now, while we love our feelings and wouldn’t want to live life without them, they are not always the best barometer to go by when making decisions. Quite honestly, there are many days I don’t “feel” like getting out of bed in the morning. On some days I get really enticed with thoughts of driving to the beach. The point is my feelings are not always a gauge for how I do life.
Successful people in life or business push through their feelings and in some cases ignore them! They step out and do things despite how they feel.
There may be some things that you need to tackle that are about as much fun as going to the dentist. However, just like the going to the dentist, your teeth or your situation will not improve until you take action. The kindest thing you can do for yourself is to tackle it anyway, despite how you feel. The best way for you to feel really great is to get it off your plate, to move forward and just DO it!
Live courageously this week and do it, not because it feels “good” but because it is the right thing to do for you and your future. You and your feelings will get a breakthrough! You will learn which feelings to ignore and which ones to celebrate.
Wow! Coach Janet that was a really good article. I didn’t realize successful people had to deal with this “feeling issue.” I always thought they loved what they did and always felt like working on their dreams or businesses.
The song “Feelings” it seems as if it was my theme song. I only did what I felt like doing, the only exception was going to work. I went to work rather I felt like it or not because the bills had to be paid. Wow! I can see now how I base a lot of decisions on how I feel, there have been times when I told myself I will take care of a task when i feel like working on it.
Well, thanks for the encouragement and challenge for this week. As you well know I have a lot of work to do on my future dreams.
